California Natives Salvia (Sage)
The genus Salvia is a very large and diverse group of perennials and annuals. Salvia, commonly called sage, consists of more 750 species varying in shapes and sizes. The ornamental species are ideal in perennial borders, and as shrubs and groundcovers. The foliage is often textured and fragrant and the flowers range in color from white to pink, and blue to purple. Most require full sun, well drained soil, and moderate amounts of water. Hard pruning after the bloom period is recommended for most to increase flowering, and maintain shape and size.
Please see our Guide To Salvia (Sage) or Growing Salvia for more cultural information.
