Salvia spathacea (Hummingbird Sage)
Perennial, 1-2'H x 2-3'W, Sun/Partial Sun, Red/Magenta, Evergreen
This beautiful California native can be found in shaded woodland areas, usually within riparian habitats. In the spring, tall magenta bloom stalks appear from the dense clumps of green foliage. This Salvia can be difficult to find and rarely available in large quantities. It can be contract grown for special projects. It can be used under trees, in containers, in mass plantings or as a special addition to a Salvia garden. It is susceptible to mealy bug, so be careful of overhead irrigation or excess summer water.
