An example of damage caused by improper shearing/pruning.

This California native is one of the easiest grasses to grow.  With regular water it quickly develops a 1-2' mound of foliage and develops  3-4' inflorescences in the spring.   It is found throughout California in sunny and shady areas.  During dry months, the green foliage turns brown and may go drought dormant.  Deergrass can be planted near ponds, pools or waterways.   It provides good slope coverage and is effective in mass plantings.  Also it is safe to use around animals that may feed on the grass.
