Mimulus cardinalis is native to California and can be found growing near wet areas.   It is incredibly easy to grow in just about any soil.  Its natural habit is a low growing  mound.  It can become leggy after blooming profusely,  but tolerates heavy pruning.  The dark scarlet flower and lime green foliage add color to any informal landscape setting.
